Part 1 - Northern Territory
Friday the 13th on our way to Mataranka for a swim in the hot springs a stray brown horse with a long mane jumped right out in front of our car just as the sun came up. This was the exact moment I realized my computer and Fortnite was left behind and that I wouldn’t be seeing it for 9 weeks. Later after a swim in the clear nice warm water we drove further out into the heart of the NT. As we stopped at Daly Waters Pub for the night, I went and took a look around the place. At the bar, it was filled with all sorts of junk stapled on to tables, walls, and doors. Like thongs hanging from the ceiling, expired credit cards and notes saying things like how much fun they’ve had in the NT and where to go. Soon it started to get dark so Dad cooked up some ravioli and we ate it outside. The only problem was as we turned the light, a thousand bugs flew right up to us. Next morning my sister and I were woken up at 6 to get in the car and ‘hit the road again’ So I slept in the car for about an hour and when I woke up Chloe shouted out DINGO! But sadly I missed it. As we were driving to Alice Springs
we stopped at the Devils Marbles. We climbed up on the giant, orange, round rocks and to my surprise, they weren’t all that round. some were broken clean in half. We all took photos for about 20 minutes and there were flies EVERYWHERE. We arrived at Alice Springs at 6pm and as we drove into Alice we were greeted by some of mum and dads friends and there 4yr and 1yr old sons. Not to forget there dog Asha. So we roasted some marshmallows on the fire and sat down with Declan (there four year old son) and watched cartoons in the cool breeze. Next morning we woke up and had bacon and eggs and stayed a few hours and left in the early afternoon. When we past Mt Connor we only had roughly one and a half hours until we got to Ayers Rock. We stopped to camp Ayers Rock resort and passing Uluru was amazing. After setting up camp we went and met up with another friend called Con. Con fly’s up here every year to fix up the fire department trucks. Since he’s a mechanic who works for the fire department. So we drove out to Uluru to see the sunset and after it got dark we drove out into town and played pull and ate pizza. We woke up early next morning to see if the weather was right to climb Uluru and it was so cold and windy the ranger had to come out to tell us to wait till later. Sadly Con had to leave to go back to Darwin and so we drove out further to see the Olgas. At the Olgas, we went and did the walk through Walpa Gap which was 4K. In the late afternoon, after looking at the Olgas I checked the Ayers Rock webpage and it said the weather was fine so we all headed off toward it. As we passed the gates to Ayers Rock we started climbing. The thing that was so scary it was on a tilted angle so you didn’t need anything to support you and you also only needed metal chains to get you up steep parts. We stopped for a drink break and it was hilarious watching my Mum and Dad nearly pass out getting up the hardest part of the rock. When the hardest part was finished we lied down on a flat part of the rock and dad said he nearly had a heart attack. Which is funny and scary at the same time. Then we got up to the mostly flat part area and we followed these white lines up to the top. when I looked down we were so high I could see the Olgas which we drove to that very day and as the sunset came in it was amazing. Later, (after getting down Uluru) we went and had dinner and booked another day so we couldn’t miss the field of lights. The next day we rode down to the camel farm and rode the camels. We took photos and when we left mum thought it would be a good idea to go and have a swim in the pool and lie down and relax. I watched Netflix and mum and dad read a book while Chloe went for a swim in the freezing cold water. When we went home we got dressed into long pants and jumpers since the night was going to be freezing and took a bus to the field of lights. When we got to the field of lights the guide said there were over 50,000 lights handcrafted and placed into the ground. We left Ayers Rock the next day and went back to Kings Canyon since we passed it coming up here and the drive was the shortest we’ve done so far. As mum and dad was setting up I went for a swim and got sorted into climbing gear again and went to climb the Kings Canyon. As we were climbing the Canyon Chloe yelled out ‘where’s the king's throne?’ and she went looking for it all over the Canyon. after a long walk, dad spotted a somebody who climbed up on one of the rocks a few meters away and he yelled COOEE and it echoed right back to him. After climbing the rock back down to the car park and I heard what I thought was dad howling in the distance and so I howled back but as I looked back towards dad he wasn’t howling and mum was pointing to an animal in the distance and it was calling out to its pup miles away from here. When we packed up the caravan the next day we woke up to a beautiful morning with the sun just coming up behind the hills and we drove past Ayers Rock for the last time. Heading of to the SA on Thursday 19 April.
