Part 2 - South Australia

Part 2 South Australia

Our first night in South Australia we stayed in a very rocky and dusty old town called Coober Pedy. In the morning we went to the Umoona Museum where they tell you lots of the town's history. I learnt that Coober Pedy has been mining opals for over 100 years. The local people of Coober Pedy live in underground homes called a dug out. we went to a museum called the Umoona museum and there was a section about dinosaur bones that were found from an inland sea that was what Coober Pedy was millions of years ago.

As we packed up and drove out of the town, we knew exactly where we were to go, Port Vincent. Port Vincent is a nice seaside town where our nan and pop lived and not far from there is Curramulka where our Cousins Ellie (7), Alice (9) and Jett (5) live and our mum's brother Adam and his wife Bron.

One night I had a sleepover at the farm where Adam and Bron live. Adam and Jett and I went spotlighting once it got dark. Spotlighting is done to keep the rabbit and fox numbers down as they are considered a pest for the farmers. Later Adam gets out the rifle and hits the fox with a single bullet. We hopped out of the car and see half of the foxes head has blown to smithereens and my gag reflexes kicked in. 20 minutes later we find another fox a few metres away and Adam shines the light on the fox. When Adam goes to take a shot at the fox he hands Jett the light, Jett puts his hands on his ears because he doesn't want to hear the bang Adam makes with the gun so he drops the light and Adam missed the shot.

In the morning I go outside with Jett to collect the eggs for breakfast and as we open the chicken coop we find 19 eggs. After we had eggs on toast we went outside to use the four and two-wheeler motorbikes and I went to ride the two-wheeler motorbike. Adam had made a bike track with a meter jump at the end and had it over near the paddock and me and Jett rode over it and I got airborne at least twice.

A few days later we all went out to a caravan and hotel park in Adelaide called Marion we stayed at Marion for 3 nights and there was lots of wildlife to see. One night, after watching Secret Life Of Pets at the outdoor cinema we headed back to our caravan and mum and I saw a person feeding a possum from a tree hanging with its back legs dug into the tree and her son was feeding three black stray kittens with meat. The next day we went to the beerenberg strawberry farm and as we were picking strawberrys Alice spotted a horse and we went to feed it. As I was feeding the horse something fell on me. It turned out to be koala droppings and it took forever to clean...
We drove back out of Adelaide the next day and headed back to Port Vincent for 4 days. And we got back we went over to our cousin's house and rode the motorbikes until it got dark. Next day Alice, Ellie and Jett had to go back to school since they get 2 weeks off and we get 1. and we stayed at nans and made cupcakes. After school, we went to surprise them and took them to their house and built a cubby until dark with old doors and wood. Later we went and ate dinner and when we ate dessert (our cupcakes) Bron screamed "MOLLY!!" and Alice and Ellie Bursted into the room crying with happiness. Molly there cat had come back after 6 months for the second time and Ellie was sure she saw her dead..

a few days later we headed off to Juile and Terry's in Normanville and as we arrived it started raining. After dinner, I wen't down into the guest room and found an ancient device called the PS2 and would only play Crash Bandicoot. The next day we left for Monarto Zoo. and saw lions, giraffes, deer, zebras, Tasmanian devil, chimps and chimpanzee, a cheetah who was walking up and down the fence line protecting her cubs, and 2 endangered species. The white and black rhino!      || --FUN FACT-- ||
One of the fun parts about the trip was booking for the Meerkat  Mingle and          ||: A cheetah can  ||

Leaving Murray Bridge the next morning we fed the ducks on the Murray river before heading off towards the Victorian border. We saw the painted silos in Coonalpyn that take weeks to paint. Hopefully, we will see some more of these along the way. We crossed the border on Friday 4th May  we have now travelled 5710 Km since Darwin....
